  • Matching thread
  • Pins or fabric clips
  • Fabric scissors
  • Ruler or seam gauge
  • Iron & ironing board (pressing is key!)
  • Safety pin (for elastic insertion and drawstring)

You’ll also need:

  • 4cm wide flat elastic — measure to fit your waist, but have at least 1.5 m to hand

Optional but helpful:

  • Overlocker/serger (optional, for neat seams)
  • Fabric marking pen, chalk, or heat-erasable pen
  • Seam ripper (we all need one!)

Fabrics to Avoid:

  • Stretch fabrics (jersey, rib knit)
  • Very thick upholstery fabrics
  • Fabrics with heavy pile (velvet, corduroy, faux fur)
